The cozy, family-run bed and breakfast "Calma do Mar" is located in Madalena on the Azorean island of Pico and promises a pleasant vacation that you can arrange flexibly and according to your own wishes.
The guest house is equipped with all amenities and has a kitchen, which is at the free disposal of every guest after breakfast, a cozy living room with fireplace and a library with books to learn more about the island of Pico and the possible activities.
In the garden and on the terrace of the Calma do Mar, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the Pico mountain and the Atlantic Ocean while relaxing together. Here you will find comfortable sun loungers and a barbecue area, which you are welcome to use at any time.
The hosts' greatest concern is that their guests feel at home at Calma do Mar and find rest and relaxation.
The Atlantic Ocean & natural swimming pools are less than 100m from the guest house.
ROOM
A total of 6 rooms are available in the guesthouse, which can be used as single, double and twin rooms.
All rooms offer the same facilities and yet each has its own charm and character.
Some rooms have their own balcony, others have a spacious bathtub, offer a view of the volcano or the sea and all are furnished with handmade furniture made from local wood.
- Double room
Here you will find a large double bed with two separate mattresses of 90*200cm each.
The room is equipped with its own bathroom, table with seating, sufficient storage space and towels for outdoor use.
- Double room
In the twin room there are two separate beds, each with a mattress of 100*200cm. These rooms also have their own bathroom and a table with seating.
Both the double and twin rooms can be booked for single use and extra beds are also available in the rooms, which offer plenty of space.

Every morning, guests at Calma do Mar can look forward to an extensive breakfast buffet with many fresh and, above all, regional products. In addition to a wide variety of cheeses produced in the Azores, there are many seasonal fruits such as bananas, oranges, figs and pineapples. Even Azorean tea finds its way onto our buffet.
ACTIVITIES
Various shops, restaurants and tour operators are just a few minutes' walk away.
The famous UNESCO World Heritage Site of Pico's unique vineyards is also just 10 minutes away.
Less than 200 meters away is a natural swimming pool, an outdoor pool and Madalena's bathing areas.
Madalena offers the ideal base for an unforgettable vacation in the Azores with a selection of delicious & original restaurants as well as tour providers for hiking, trips on the Atlantic Ocean and diving.
The surrounding islands can also be reached easily with the daily ferry connections.

The Atlantic Ocean around Pico is one of the world's best areas for whale and dolphin watching and offers a unique diversity of species to discover. Up to 30 different species of whales and dolphins can be found around the Azores.
The best way to have an unforgettable experience is to get up close and personal with the free-roaming dolphins while swimming.
- Swimming & bathing
Even if you don't necessarily find the classic sandy beaches on Pico, there are still plenty of breathtaking bathing opportunities. Many of the bathing spots are protected from the Atlantic surf by offshore reefs or walls
- Island tours
Whether by car, scooter or quad bike, Pico is perfect for exploring on your own. Of course, guided island tours are also offered to explore the most beautiful places, museums or bathing spots during a discovery tour. - Hiking
The most beautiful routes on the island of Pico can be discovered on leisurely walks as well as on challenging day or multi-day hikes.
DIVE BASE
The professional diving center CW Azores with years of experience is well equipped and offers guests the best safety standards.
Unique rock formations, more than 650 documented fish species and over 400 coral species can be marveled at here. The proximity of Apo Island to the resort makes every diver's dream come true.
DIVING GANGS
- Shark diving
The Azores are known for their fascinating dives with blue and mako sharks in crystal-clear water with visibility of up to 20 - 30+ meters. The best months for diving are from the beginning of July to mid-October, when the water temperature is between 21° and 25° Celsius. - Princess Alice
During expeditions to the world-famous dive site "Princess Alice", the top of an underwater mountain in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, which extends 1,000 meters out of the depths, majestic mobulas, mackerel, large tuna and barracudas teem with life.
The success rate of encountering these beautiful animals is almost 100% in the months between July and September.
The site is around 85 km from Pico and you should be prepared for a long, adventurous journey by speedboat. - Shore dives
The diverse, volcanic underwater landscape of the islands of Pico, Faial and Sao Jorge with its numerous and varied creatures - from giant stingrays to graceful nudibranchs - will amaze more than just professional underwater photographers.
The narrow coastal shelf, steep walls, canyons & drop-offs bring coastal, open water and deep sea habitats into close proximity, so literally almost anything could come up on a dive!
Even less experienced divers will be surprised by the variety of dive sites. Even if you are not yet a diver, Pico offers the perfect opportunity to learn.
You can get to the island of Pico thanks to flights landing several times a week via Lisbon. It is a good idea to spend 1-2 nights here during your arrival or departure to get to know the city on a sightseeing tour.
Another way to get to Pico is via the neighboring island of Faial and a short, approximately 30-minute onward journey by ferry. The ferry port of Madalena is just a 10-minute walk from the Calma Do Mar bed and breakfast.
For stays of at least 7 nights, the costs and the organization of the transfer from Pico airport to the guest house will be covered by the accommodation.
